Mentoring Coffee Break - The Mentor Perspective

Mentoring Coffee Break
In recognition of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Day of Service and International Mentoring Day, WISE NYC Metro hosted a mentoring coffee break with our chapter president @Van Adams, principal of the VanAdams Sports Group and founder of Gathering on the Greens and former Women of Inspiration honorees - @Elisa Padilla, MBA, former CMO at the Brooklyn Nets and brand builder; Renée E. Tirado, Esq. former Chief Diversity Officer at MLB and Gucci; and trailblazing sports broadcaster with Yankees Radio, @Suzyn Waldman.

Here are a few key takeaways as first captured by @Nicole Smart professional development chair and founder of Smart DEI Solutions.

Renée E. Tirado, Esq. ON THE MENTORING RELATIONSHIP
Maximize the relationship. Everyone brings something to the table -have your questions and thoughts ready and be very intentional around what you are trying to accomplish with that particular mentor - mentee relationship. The most important commodity for everyone and the one that we have the finite amount of is time.

Elisa Padilla ON PAYING IT FORWARD
Send the elevator down and pay it forward. Pick someone and bring them up, because it is critical in extending the hand.

Suzyn Waldman ON PROGRESSION
Widen the playing field and help other women and know that you are going to learn something too. If we're out there on our own it's never going to be equal. Gone are the days where we were never allowed to be friends with women because they were going to take our job away.
